Suretank expands into US market
Suretank, the world’s leading provider of engineered solutions to the offshore oil and gas industry, has entered into a partnership agreement with Louisiana based manufacturer Amgulf Fabrication Inc as part of Suretank’s long term strategy to build local in markets worldwide.
Established last year by Lawrence Detiveaux and Jason Underwood, Amgulf Fabrication is a start up business based on the business principles of Suretank’s founder and chairman Patrick Joy, with Suretank having 25 percent ownership.

Through the new facility in Houma, Louisiana, Suretank will be offering the full range of DNV 2.7-1 certified equipment including offshore containers, skids, baskets and skips, with tanks to be added to the portfolio in the future.
Martin Laverty, Market Development Director at Suretank, explained: “The US is a significant growth market for Suretank and we are confident that we have found the right partner with Amgulf Fabrication. Suretank’s success is down to listening to its customers. We work closely with our clients to develop solutions that suit their specific requirements, and having in-market manufacturing and equipment deployment is extremely important to maintaining customer service excellence.
“Our in-market US manufacturing facilities gives our customers and their staff an opportunity to visit during the equipment build phase and moreover to benefit from hands-on equipment training and advice from our experienced engineering personnel. This model allows for easy vetting of the factory’s quality control systems and gives our clients the opportunity to bring their end user to see the equipment before it is delivered.”
Prior to setting up Amgulf Fabrication, Lawrence Detiveaux owned a major offshore tank rental company in the Gulf of Mexico, Circulation Tools, which was acquired by Swire Oilfield Services in 2009.
Commenting on the partnership with Suretank, Lawrence said: “This is a very exciting time for us setting up a new business and entering into partnership with Suretank. Investment to date has been over a million US dollars and we have plans to expand the business further over the next two years including facility, equipment, and property improvements, along with growing the work force. This expansion will enhance our productivity and manufacturing capabilities. Our most recent investments include the installation of a state of the art test rig to facilitate lift testing of all containers, which will be available to clients for additional in service periodic testing. We’ve also invested in our own internal design engineering team to offer local engineering support.”
Suretank is the world’s largest manufacturer of tanks and cargo-carrying units for the offshore oil and gas industry and all of its products are produced to DNV 2.7-1 certification as standard.
