Cunningham secures €35m in data centre contracts

Cunningham has secured €35 million in new data centre contracts in Ireland and Sweden and appointed John Cunningham as managing director of its Mission Critical Division.

The announcements come as the construction contractor marks 20 years in business and expands its European operations, with an established presence in Ireland and growing operations in Germany and Sweden.

In Blanchardstown, Dublin, Cunningham will deliver a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) within an existing hyperscale data centre campus. The eight-month project is the facility’s first energy storage installation of its kind and is designed to support operational resilience and efficiency.

The scope includes full mechanical and electrical delivery, transformer installation and integration with existing network infrastructure, alongside associated civil, structural and architectural (CSA) works.

In Skellefteå, Sweden, the company has secured a 12-month CSA package on a large hyperscale data centre development.

John Cunningham brings more than 30 years of senior leadership experience in construction, having overseen major projects across multiple sectors. He will lead the division’s development, including its operational and commercial capabilities, teams and client relationships as it expands across Europe.

Tim Cunningham, CEO of Cunningham, said: “We are entering an exciting new chapter in Cunningham’s growth, particularly within our Mission Critical Division. The award of €35 million in new contracts, our continued expansion into European markets and the strengthening of our senior leadership team are all significant milestones for the business.

“Over recent years, we have built a strong reputation for delivering complex Mission Critical projects, supported by the expertise of our people and the trust of our clients.

“John’s appointment is an important strategic investment in the future of the division. His experience and leadership will be instrumental as we continue to develop our capabilities, support our clients and pursue new opportunities across Ireland and Europe.

“As we celebrate our 20th anniversary, these developments reflect both how far the business has come and our ambition for the years ahead.”

John Cunningham, Managing Director, Mission Critical Division, added: “I’m delighted to join Cunningham at such an important stage in its development. The business has established a strong reputation in the Mission Critical sector through its commitment to quality, technical excellence and client relationships.

“The continued growth of the division, combined with our expanding international presence, presents significant opportunities for the business.

“My focus will be on building on these strong foundations, developing our people, strengthening our operational and commercial capabilities and ensuring we continue to deliver exceptional projects for our clients as we grow.”

Founded in 2006, Cunningham delivers construction projects across Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe. Its Mission Critical Division forms part of the company’s long-term growth strategy, supported by investment in leadership, specialist expertise and international delivery capabilities.
