Engineers Without Borders Ireland is inviting companies and individuals to collaborate to raise awareness of the UN Sustainable Development Goals while supporting the work of Engineers Without Borders by participating in EWB SDG Day on 4 March.

EWB SDG Day coincides with World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development which acknowledges the contribution engineers make to sustainable development and achieving the SDGs; a collection of 17 interlinked goals designed to be a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.

Engineers without Borders Ireland is a registered charity dedicated to bridging the gap between academia, industry and NGOs to give Irish engineers and scientists opportunities to learn about and contribute to sustainable development globally.

Since being established in 2010, EWB-Ireland have worked with communities in Nepal, Zambia, Uganda, Kenya and Ireland in many of the SDG focus areas including food security, water and sanitation, clean energy, climate action, education, equality and health.

What is EWB SDG Day?

With many people working remotely, this year’s event takes place virtually, requires minimal effort, and aims to make virtual meetings more interesting!

EWB are asking participants to select one (or more) of the UN SDGs to promote by creating a virtual background. The image should represent what that goal means to them. By using this in Zoom meetings, it will raise awareness of the SDGs among colleagues.

To raise further awareness, EWB are asking participants to post a screen grab on social media. Alternatively, they can post a photo of themselves with a message “I‘m supporting Goal X on EWB SDG Day because…”

All funds raised will go towards EWB-Ireland’s work including the manufacture of PPE for use in Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh and village education centres in Kabwe, Zambia.
