Kingspan, a global leader in high-performance low carbon building envelope solutions has announced the expansion of its innovative Lower Embodied Carbon [LEC] range with the addition of Troldtekt LEC acoustic panel which has a 46 per cent (%)^* reduction in embodied carbon^*1 compared to its standard product.

Troldtekt is a Danish manufacturer of acoustic panels that was acquired by Kingspan in 2022. Its new Lower Embodied Carbon [LEC] acoustic panel (patent pending) are now available in Denmark and Germany and will be rolled out across other European markets on a phased basis.

Key to this major advancement is the use of an innovative binder developed in-house by Troldtekt and Kingspan’s IKON Innovation Centre in Cavan, Ireland.

The new proprietary binder incorporates 25 per cent (%) secondary materials to create the rigid base layer of the acoustic panels. This innovation reduces embodied carbon by 46 per cent (%) while maintaining the high product performance for which Troldtekt is known.

It brings to 49 the total number of Lower Embodied Carbon (LEC) products developed by Kingspan under its Planet Passionate programme to date.

*Reported GWP reduction (%) is calculated by comparing the results for the GWP-total indicator across lifecycle modules A-C in accordance with EN 15804 +A2 using Scenario I – Incineration (reflecting regional waste management practice in Denmark) for module C3, as disclosed in the respective EPDs:

1.The standard product – Troldtekt acoustic panels, natural wood based on traditional white cement,

2.The LEC product – Troldtekt acoustic panels, natural wood based on a mineral-based LEC (Lower Embodied Carbon) binder.
