Omniplex opens new €5m cinema in Rathmines

A new €5m cinema boasting one of Ireland’s largest screens opened with a media launch.

The Omniplex Group owns the adjacent Swan Shopping Centre in Rathmines where it previously operated a three screen cinema. The company, which owns 21 other cinemas in the Republic and Northern Ireland, has now added a 22,000 sq ft extension to the centre with the brand new cinema featuring eight screens and over 1,600 seats.

The OmniplexMaxx giant screen is 15.5m wide by 8.5m high and features ultra high definition 3D projection. The Auro 11.1 by Barco sound system, which is only available in Omniplex cinemas, incorporates three layers of sound designed to simulate the most natural of 3D acoustics. The cinema’s seats, meanwhile, are bespoke leather rocker armchairs with 1.2 metres of leg room.

“Describing the OmniplexMAaxx visual and aural experience cannot do it justice, you have to see it, and hear it, and feel it to believe it,” said Omniplex managing director Paul Anderson. “The ultra-high definition 3D screen has the new Barco sound system where you not only hear the sound but can actually feel it. Rathmines now has a world class cinema and has become a true destination in its own right for film goers and shoppers in south Dublin.” Source: Business and Leadership
