Tesco Extra store opens in Gorey

A new Tesco Extra store has opened in Gorey, Co Wexford, creating more than 50 new jobs for the town.

The existing Tesco Gorey store closed on 18 January, with some 100 staff transferring over to work in the new store, bringing to 168 the total amount of people employed by Tesco in the town. At 60,000 sq ft, the new store is double the size of the old one.

Peter Spratt, store manager Tesco Extra Gorey said: “Our new store has an extensive ranges of groceries, clothing and electrical goods, as well as toys, gifts, health and beauty and household. And, with over 600 free car parking spaces available, it will make for a stress-free shopping trip.”

Local Wexford suppliers to Tesco Extra Gorey include Trudie’s Catering Kitchen, Stafford’s Bakery, Killowen Farm and John B. Dockrell.

Tesco works with over 11,000 Irish farm families and 400 Irish food and drink suppliers in total across its network here. There are now 146 Tesco stores in Ireland and 14 Tesco Extra stores.

Consistent with Tesco’s commitment to reduce its carbon footprint by 50pc by 2020, Tesco Extra Gorey features many environmental initiatives such as roof windows to allow in natural light, a state-of-the-art motion detection lighting system, cold aisle air retrieval and front lobby.
