DCS Group Launches National “Biggest Energy Loser” Schools Competition
In 2010/’11 School Year, DCS Group began the pilot Scheme of an energy competition where 2 Transition Year teams, from St Mary’s C.B.S. (The Green), Tralee, Co. Kerry and St David’s C.B.S. Artane, Dublin were pitted against each other, using innovative energy management software, to see which class could save the most energy in their respective schools. The schools measured their electricity, water, gas and oil consumption over the winter period and saved on average 20% on their energy bills during the scheme.
Following the success of the Pilot scheme, DCS Group are delighted to announce the launch of the 2012/’13 National “Biggest Energy Loser” Competition!
Rather than having to fund-raise to cover energy bills we felt that secondary schools in particular could harness the ‘energies’ of their transition year students to enable them to engage from start to finish on a real-life project, handling installation, monitoring and reporting results and adjusting accordingly, in a healthy competitive environment which will ultimately benefit their school and their homes.
This time around, all transition year classes in Ireland are being invited to enter the contest. There will be winners in various categories as well as an overall winner who will scoop the top prize of brand new shiny i-pads for the class!
Not only will there be amazing prizes, but with enthusiastic participation all competing schools will save energy, help the environment and most importantly, save money. The closing date for entries is the 25th October
