€2.1M Refurbishment of Cavan Town Water Treatment Plant moves ahead
Cavan County Council has secured funding of €2.1m for the refurbishment of Cavan Town Water Treatment Plant. The Council has entered into a contract with Glan Agua Limited to revamp and improve the treatment plant.
According to Councillor Val Smith, Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council “The works will ensure that Cavan Town has a top quality water supply which meets the highest of treatment standards and can meet development needs for many years to come”.
The scope of the works include:
- New Settling Tanks
- Provision of 2 No. Rapid Gravity Filters
- Sludge Holding Tank & Thickening Filters
- Sludge Dewatering Building
- Filter Press
- All Associated Instrumentation, M & E, Civil Works
- External Insulation of Existing Chemical Treatment House & improved access to same
Eoin Doyle, Director of Services advised that “the project is the first stage of a 2 step process designed to provide Cavan with a top class infrastructure. The second stage will involve the complete redevelopment of the Town’s sewerage facilities at a cost of €20m. The Council is currently completing a tender report for the Department and will then lobby aggressively for funding. These 2 projects could provide Cavan with the ideal platform to meet development needs for the future. If the Council gets Department approval for its Sewerage Scheme it will provide the town will a major platform to expand in the future”.
