Guinness on the move
Gardai announced yesterday that an “abnormal load” would be traveling from Dun Laoghaire Port to St James Gate between the hours of 10pm Tuesday night and 3am Wednesday morning. Ten giant Guinness silos were transported, each capable of holding up to one million pints.
The giant silos arrived in Dunlaoghaire earlier this month by ship, they are some 22 metres long, 6.6 metres wide and 5.4 metres high.
The silos will be used in the Guinness brewery extension. The new brewery installation is one of its kind utilising the latest technology to minimise energy usage. The equivalent of an Olympic size swimming pool of water will be used every 30 hours in stout production.
It is expected the installation will be finished in early march.
