Event to support SMEs in Southern region with incoming digital requirements

The Digital Collaboration Network ─ an initiative established by the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) is hosting a free event this Thursday, 18 June, 5.30-8pm, in Cork to support SMEs in the southern region with the implementation of digital processes within their businesses.

Prompted by requirements for public works contracts, the Digital Collaboration Network offers CIF members the opportunity to learn from industry experts and peers, share experiences, and get practical support in a structured forum.

Ireland’s Building Information Modelling (BIM) mandate was introduced in January 2024 for public works and continues to cascade down through the industry based on project value.  From January 2027 it will impact public projects on the contractor side over €5 million in value and from January 2028 it will impact all public works contracts. This will require construction companies to be in compliance with digital processes as set out under the Capital Works Management Framework.

Part of the Government’s overall strategy to digitalise the construction sector by 2030, BIM is a process for creating, managing, and sharing information throughout the entire lifecycle of a construction project that uses digital technologies. When properly implemented, BIM is seen as having the potential to significantly enhance the design, construction, and operation of public infrastructure projects in the years ahead.

Speaking in the lead-up to the event in Cork, CIF Director of Special Contracting Denise Tuffy, said: “Following a successful event in Galway last month, we’re delighted to host our second Digital Collaboration Network event this week for companies in the Southern region, bringing together industry experts and members at varying stages of digital maturity to provide a platform for practical and open discussion.”

Denise continued: “Given that digital process requirements will continue to impact a greater number of projects over the coming months, now presents a timely opportunity for companies to prepare for the future. Digitalisation is not only about complying with the mandate – it’s about strengthening and growing your business and in the process, increasing your bottom line. In light of this, we strongly encourage our members to join us in Cork this Thursday for a collaborative and informative evening.”

The event is taking place on Thursday, 18 June from 5:30pm to 8pm in the Radisson Blu Hotel in Little Island, Co Cork.

It’s open to all CIF members and is particularly aimed at companies in counties Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Clare, Waterford, Tipperary and South Wexford, register here.
