Major fall in planning permission applications

CSO figures out today show that in the third quarter of 2012, planning permissions were granted for 1,638 dwelling units, compared with 2,512 units for the same period in 2011, a decrease of 34.8 %.

The third quarter figures also show that:  Planning Permissions were granted for 1,540 houses in the third quarter of 2012 and 1,887 in the third quarter of 2011, a decrease of 18.4%.  Planning permissions were granted for 98 apartment units, compared with 625 units for the same period in 2011, a decrease of 84.3%.  One-off houses accounted for 52.0% of all new dwelling units granted planning permission in this quarter.

The total number of planning permissions granted for all developments was 4,047. This compares with 4,446 in the third quarter of 2011, a
decrease of 9.0%.   Total floor area planned was 877 thousand square metres in the third quarter of 2012. Of this, 35.6% was for new dwellings, 39.4% for other new constructions and 25.0% for extensions. The total floor area planned decreased by 9.5% in comparison with the same quarter in 2011.

Planning Permissions for new buildings for Agriculture increased to 231 this quarter. This compares to 194 permissions in the same quarter
of 2011.
