CREST in Enniskillen are hosting the ‘See the Light’ Passive House conference this September 24th and Kingspan Insulation has announced that they are to be the events main sponsor.

This September a host of experts in construction will descend upon Enniskillen for the Passive House Association of Ireland’s ‘See the light’ conference. This year the conference will be held in both the north and the south of Ireland with two connected events at the recently opened CREST Passive Pavilion and at Cork Institute of Technology. This year marks the first time that the event has been held in a venue that is certified to the Passive House standard.

The conference has an impressive lineup of speakers originating from the Netherlands, UK, Ireland and Germany including Northern Ireland based speakers Willie Moffitt and Paul McAlister. The main themes covered will include passive house policy developments across the island of Ireland, new build case studies and the challenges of retrofitting the existing housing stock to very high levels of energy efficiency required by the Passive House standard.

The Passive House concept has been making massive waves in the world of construction in recent years. The concept which results in highly energy efficient buildings with exceptional comfort conditions has recently been adopted by the Brussels Capital Region in Belgium for all new buildings being built in the country. Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Council in Dublin has proposed the same in the district causing a stir in both Irish government and construction industry circles.

The Centre for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technologies (CREST) at South West College Enniskillen is a significant player in the field of Passive House construction in Ireland. CREST at South West College offer Passive House Designer and Tradesperson courses in order to drive forward the mainstreaming of the Passive House standard. The Centre has also helped facilitate networking and has hosted several events relating to the Passive House concept.

On the morning of the conference, CREST will be providing a free Passive House introductory event for those who would like to learn about the concept. This introductory event will consists of a tour of the recently opened CREST Passive Pavilion which is a Passive House building and a short ‘FAQ’ session in relation to Passive House standards.
