NuVasive®, Inc. establishes its International Operation Centre in Waterford

NuVasive, Inc.(Nasdaq: NUVA), a medical device company, has established an International Operations Centre in Waterford, with the creation of up to30 highly skilled roles over the next two to three years. NuVasive has begun hiring supply chain, customer service, accounting, and IT positions. The investment is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.

Based in San Diego, California, NuVasive is an innovative medical device company focused on developing minimally disruptive surgical products and procedures for the spine. The spine market is the largest segment within the global orthopaedic market, with the European market expected to achieve significant growth on the account of an aging population, a growing number of younger patients, changing lifestyles and product innovations.

The introduction of novel NuVasive technologies, such as the Maximum Access Surgery (MAS®) surgical platform and the XLIF® procedure, a minimally disruptive procedure that allows spine surgeons to have direct access to the intervertebral disc space from the side of the patient’s body, as opposed to the front or back as in traditional spine procedures, have provided surgeons with alternatives that have altered the spine market globally. The establishment of an operations centre in Ireland will strengthen the company’s ability to bring these game-changing products, procedures and services to the global marketplace.

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD said,  “A key part of our plan for jobs in the South East is a directive to the enterprise agencies to put a new focus on the region. In the time since then we have seen jobs growth of more than 14,000 in the area, and significant announcements by companies supported by my Department, although the region continues to face challenges. Today’s announcement that NuVasive, an innovative US medical devices company, is establishing a new facility in Waterford and creating 30 jobs is a further boost for the region. I wish the company every success with their new operation and look forward to further announcements like this for the South East in the coming months”.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NuVasive Alex Lukianov said, “We are thrilled to be located in Waterford with access to the strong local talent to support our international operations. The support from everyone in Ireland has been fantastic and we are excited to grow our presence in the area and improve our international business.”
