Energy Cork grows into lead energy umbrella group
Energy Cork has become the country’s largest energy cluster just 12 months after it was founded, with more than 50 companies now participating.
The former lead executive of Phillips 66 and chairman of Energy Cork, Neil O’Carroll, said that the region has become a national leader in the development of the Irish energy sector.
“Cork is now the hub for the energy sector, not just in the region, but it also houses the largest energy cluster nationally,” said Mr O’Carroll.
Energy Cork is holding a workshop on Thursday for members and non-members alike to try and direct the development of the energy sector.
The workshop will be addressed by minister of state for research and innovation Sean Sherlock, and focus on issues facing energy and fuel suppliers, renewable energy projects and technology developers, sustainable energy consultancies, engineering consultancies, finance and professional services companies, research and development, and oil and gas exploration organisations.
Mr Sherlock said Energy Cork has been instrumental in shaping the national energy policy over the course of the last year.
“The Energy Cork Stakeholder Workshop gives us a great opportunity to re-engage and report back to our wide circle of stakeholders after our first year,” said Mr Sherlock.
“We’re looking forward to a lively workshop focused on the advancement of the energy sector as an engine for growth regionally and nationally.
Our monthly Breakfast Briefings over the past year have proved an invaluable forum and allowed the sector to meet regularly to help shape the Energy policy and agenda nationally.”
The Energy Cork Workshop runs from 9am to 12.30pm on Thursday at the Radisson Blu Hotel Spa, Little Island, Cork, and admission is free, with registration from 9am to 9.30am. source: The Irish Examiner
