HSE opens new Primary Care Centre in Athenry
The HSE has announced that the new Athenry Primary Care Centre has been opened and became operational on Wednesday 24 July. GP services will be provided by the doctors from “The Surgery”, previously based at Caheroyn, Athenry. The Centre will also accommodate Public Health Nurses, Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Psychology Services, Family Support Services, Counselling Service, Community Heart Failure Nurse, Community Welfare Clinics, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Clinics, a Social Work Team and Home Help services. Athenry Primary Care Centre will also accommodate a Day Hospital for the local Community Mental Health Team.
The new Primary Care Centre in Athenry is located in Raheen, and has been developed by Raheen Developments. There will be a number of private healthcare providers also on site including Athenry Physiotherapy, McSharry’s Pharmacy, Ruth Kilcoyne Dietitian, Specsavers – Audiology 9. Mocha Beans will provide onsite refreshments.
Commenting, Marie Prendergast, Primary Care HSE West said; “This Primary Care Centre will allow the public to have easy access to an increased range of services from Athenry Primary Care Team based in the one location. The new facility will allow the provision of high quality health care in a clean, modern, safe environment. The building is fully accessible for those who have a disability, those who have mobility difficulties and parents with buggies. The development of Primary Care Teams is a key element of our national plan for developing community-based health services.”
