Deputy Feighan welcomes planning go-ahead for €3m Endoscopy Unit at Roscommon Hospital
Local Government TD, Frank Feighan, has warmly welcomed the granting of planning permission for the state-of-the-art €3m Endoscopy Unit at Roscommon County Hospital.
“I would like to pay tribute to all the members of the Endoscopy Capital Project Team and Roscommon County Council officials who have ensured that this flagship project has reached a critical stage in its development. I expect the project will shortly go out to tender where a suitable contractor will be selected to construct the unit.
“The planning go-ahead given by the local council is another major milestone for the development of this project, which will see the hospital become a diagnostic centre for the western region.
“What this effectively means is that the 14,000 square foot Endoscopy Unit will facilitate scope procedures for patients from all over the West of Ireland. This includes colonoscopies and it also hoped the service will be widened to offer Bronchoscopy, Cystoscopy and a range of other such like scope services. These procedures will be performed by Roscommon Hospital Consultants and visiting consultants from other hospitals in the network.
“This Endoscopy capital development also paves the way for Roscommon County Hospital to become a recognised centre for a national bowel screening programme, which is expected to formally commence in the Autumn.
“The progression of this €3m development endorses my public commitment to secure the long-term future of Roscommon County Hospital. This is clear evidence that I am standing by my guarantee that the hospital can be a shining example for every small hospital in the country.
“As a Government TD, this has allowed me to work with all stakeholders at national and local level to ensure the best services are put in place for Roscommon Hospital.”
