Techrete Ireland wins SME Energy Management Award at The annual Sustainable Energy Awards

Founded in 1985, Techrete is the largest company in the design, manufacture and supply of architectural precast cladding, to the UK and Irish construction markets, employing 250 people.

The Green SME Award category recognises those businesses that implement a green startegy designed to reduce the impact their business makes on the environment as they deliver their products and services.

Commenting on the award Techrete said; “we promote sustainability in both the design and function of our products and in the processes used in thier manufacture. We have invested continually in both our plants to install state of the art green technologies”.

Among the many measures introduced were:
– Recycling, reuse & waste minimisation
– Use of green suppliers
– Energy consumption reduction measures
– Water consumtion efficiencies, a 76% reduction in the use of mains water since 2008!
– Community involvement and support of the local economy

Project Information

The Techrete Energy Management team consists of 8 staff that covers the full spread of operations within the business. Energy Manager Mark O’Dea issues weekly KPIs to management which show how Techrete is performing relative to targets. These KPIs cover electricity, gas, diesel and water consumption and having 16 sub-meters fitted throughout the site, monitored on-line in real time, means detailed up to date data is discussed at the weekly management meetings. Over the past 3 years they have reduced unit costs by a total of 35%. In addition, their CO2 emissions per unit output have fallen by 72%. They have targeted a 10% reduction in both electrical and thermal energy consumption for the year to 01/03/2013.

Judges Description

‘‘Techcrete is En16001 certified and is now in the transition process to ISO50001. They have reduced their energy intensity by 41% since 2008 while at the same time maintaining a reasonable constant level of output.’’
