G8 summit base back on the market

The Lough Erne Resort in County Fermanagh, which will play host to the G8 summit in June, has been placed back on the market by its administrators.

The five-star hotel and championship golf course is for sale for £10m.

It was originally put on the market in September 2012, but was taken off again two months later after a fire caused substantial damage to the pool area.

The following day, Prime Minister David Cameron announced it would be the venue for the summit of G8 world leaders.

On Thursday, joint administrator Stuart Irwin of KPMG said: “There was significant worldwide interest in the resort before it was withdrawn from the market due to the fire at the start of November.

“The rebuild has been completed and has enhanced the quality of the facilities at the resort. “We are asking for offers in the region of £10m and we fully expect that there will be a very positive response to the relaunch. We are hopeful of concluding a sale process later in the year.”

The resort opened in 2007 but went into administration in May 2011.

At one stage, it was valued at about £30m. When the owners, Castle Hume Leisure, went into administration, they owed Bank of Scotland Ireland £25m.

The hotel has 120 rooms and suites. Its facilities include a dedicated conference and banqueting space for 400 people, five food and beverage outlets and a Thai spa.

The complex has two championship golf courses – the Castle Hume and the signature Faldo course – two floodlit driving ranges and boasts the only Nick Faldo Academy in Europe. Source: BBC News
