Breedon Group is delivering a major sustainability improvement project at its Dublin Port Bitumen Terminal through the conversion of the site’s energy system from gas oil to natural gas.

Following significant capital investment, the project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 470 tonnes of Co2 annually – equivalent to a 25% reduction in emissions from the site’s previous fuel source.

The upgrade includes two modern boilers and new flue gas economisers, improving energy efficiency across both the bitumen terminal and the polymer modified bitumen plant to ensure the site can operate effectively and reliably using natural gas. Delivered through close collaboration with suppliers, contractors, Gas Networks Ireland and

Dublin Port, the project reinforces Breedon’s commitment to making a material difference by upgrading its assets for a sustainable future and supporting Ireland’s transition to more sustainable industrial operations.
