DAA requires contractors for €50m expansion at Dublin airport
The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) will soon begin the tendering process for expansion works at a cost of between €30m to €50m as part of a five-year programme of capital investment.
The first stage of the works is scheduled to begin in September as the authority seeks to demolish some of its existing airside structures and construct several new facilities including a new airside management suite, office units, and utility facilities in addition to refurbishing some landside offices and completing all necessary surveys and services diversions.
The DAA has started the tendering process for this work and will roll out multiple project undertakings over the next few months.
The decision was made to move ahead during the COVID-19 pandemic to have the airport primed for “shovel-ready” projects as passenger numbers begin to increase in line with increased travel activity.
A DAA spokesman has said: “This approach takes account of current market conditions and will position Dublin Airport for when the upturn is in full swing and we need to progress future developments in order to meet the requirements of the Irish economy. It is a prudent approach to safeguard the long-term requirements of the airport.”
“We are adopting a twin-track approach to the Dublin Airport capital programme, whereby we intend to move forward with key activities such as procurement and planning as these do not require significant capital investment at this point,” the DAA spokesman added.
In 2019 Dublin Airport handled almost 40m passengers with flights to over 190 destinations around the world.
