Engineers Ireland wishes to recruit a Director General (DG) following the decision by the current incumbent to step down in 2015.

As the representative body of all engineering disciplines in Ireland, North and South, Engineers Ireland promotes and develops the profession and serves a steadily growing body of 22,500 members based in Ireland and overseas. In an increasingly converging world, Engineers Ireland successfully highlights the importance of engineering in society and is working with government and other partners to ensure relevance to an increasingly broad membership, continuous improvement of the organisation’s professional standards and of engineering services to the general public.

The DG leads a team of 40 through the executive director team (EDT). The organisation’s functions include: Continuous Professional Development, Registration, Marketing & Communications, Membership Services, HR and Finance. The DG collaborates with the elected Executive Board to agree strategic priorities, works closely with the vital volunteer cohort to deliver on those priorities, fulfils the role of Company Secretary, represents the Council with key stakeholders and ensures the continued financial sustainability of Engineers Ireland. The priorities for the incoming DG will be to:

• continue to increase membership across all disciplines of engineering;
• build on the growing profile of Engineers Ireland as a professional body;
• secure registration of the profession; and
• enhance the long tradition of Engineers Ireland’s high professional standards.

As the leader of Engineers Ireland the DG will manage and motivate the EDT, effectively communicate the vision for Engineers Ireland and have the credibility, gravitas and political nous to negotiate with key stakeholders. As a highly results orientated manager and leader, he/she will demonstrate a depth of professional experience and judgement skills that will enrich the organisation, be a natural collaborator and diplomat and possess the personal integrity and charisma to raise the profile of the profession through debate of topical issues while promoting and delivering Engineers Ireland’s strategic priorities.

This is a significant leadership role that offers many opportunities to grow and develop the organisation and to contribute to the future of a long-established, financially sustainable and nationally important professional body at a very positive stage in its evolution.
