Sisk, Hines and APG achieve milestone in Cherrywood development
John Sisk & Son and Hines have officially capped off the first major apartment block at Cherrywood in south Dublin and has confirmed that the first new tenants will begin moving into the new development by Q2 2021.
Sisk in conjunction with Hines and APG commenced construction work on the 431 unit complex 18 months ago – the very first set of new apartment blocks to be built in the new town – located directly adjacent to the Cherrywood Luas Green Line stop.
Hines Senior Managing Director, Brian Moran, says today is a very significant milestone for Cherrywood – “We are delighted to mark this first major capping off having made strong progress over the last 18 months. The building is very much taking shape with some of the high quality design features already evident such as large bright courtyards, sizable building entrances and full floor-to-ceiling windows with added height in all our units. We are very excited about the quality and sustainability of the homes we are building at Cherrywood and this combined with excellent local facilities we have built including three substantial new parks, state of the art all-weather sports facilities, 5.5k of cycle lanes, paths and greenways and connecting roads will make for a very high quality amenity-rich environment for people to live in.”
Hines Managing Director Gary Corrigan says the recent recommencement of works has gone very smoothly – “Notwithstanding the changed economic backdrop, the demand for quality residential housing remains high throughout Dublin, and Cherrywood will make a significant contribution in that regard over the coming years. We are firmly back on track post-Covid and now expect to see our first new units coming on stream by Q2 of next year. We are working with our contractor Sisk in delivering the first new residential phase for the new town of Cherrywood, 10% of which will be social housing in line with statutory requirements.”
Donal McCarthy, COO – Ireland and Europe, John Sisk & Son said capping off is always a special event in the construction phase – “We are delighted to have reached this key project milestone, particularly given the new operating procedures we are working under arising from Covid-19. We look forward to continuing to work in collaboration with Hines, APG and our supply chain partners to successfully complete the overall delivery of the project.”
Building work is also progressing well on the neighbouring Phase 2 block comprising an additional 520 apartments also adjacent to the Luas Green Line at Bride’s Glen. This combined with additional units under development in the new Town Centre area, will see a total of 1,326 apartments coming on stream at Cherrywood over the next 3 years.
Almost 400 people are working on the Cherrywood site currently across construction, design, engineering and project management.
To mark the official capping out of TC2, Hannah Ward, a Health and Safety Advisor for Sisk in Cherrywood, hoisted the Irish tricolour at the top of the building witnessed by representatives of Hines, Sisk and project team representatives.
