Tesco Opens New Ballincollig Store
Tesco has created 104 new jobs with the opening of its new store at Ballincollig, County Cork today.
The store will employ 125 people in total, with 39 coming from the live register including 11 graduates from the Tesco Positive2Work Programme. 60% of staff are from the local area, with Tesco now employing nearly 15,000 people nationally and over 1,100 in county Cork.
Olympic athlete Derval O’Rourke opened the store and said, “As a proud Cork woman, I am delighted to officially open this new Tesco Ballincollig store, which is a great boost to the local community. I am also delighted to kick-start the fundraiser ‘tread-milling for Temple St’, Tesco’s new charity of the year, which has me kitted out in the runners once again, but will hopefully help raise valuable funds for the Children’s hospital!”
Alan Coughlan, Tesco Ballincollig store manager, said: “Our new store offers the best of fresh and local food to customers, with the community at the heart of the shopping experience […] We’re also delighted to be able to channel our surplus food to the local Ballincollig initiatives that need it most using the innovative foodcloud app technology, which we are also rolling out across all of our stores in Ireland.”
The new store, which is located in Ballincollig town centre, measures 32,000 square feet of net retail space and has over 300 covered car parking spaces. Source: Checkout
